1. The Background

The Methodist English School owes its beginning to the early Christian educators. It was established in the 1930s as the Anglo Chinese School, Tanjong Malim. A group of Malayan pioneering teachers trained under the Normal Class Training Program was sent to start the school. Back then there was only a handful of students amongst them were the first Member of Parliament, the late Mr. Lee Seck Fun.

Over the years the school has produced many prominent and outstanding Malaysians who have contributed tremendously to the progress of the nation. However irrespective of their success and social standings, old boys of the school have always gathered to walk down memory lane and to share their experiences during the good old days with their former classmates. These gatherings were loosely organised and confined to those who can be contacted and through words of mouth.

On the 14th of March 2010, a group of old students amongst them was the late Dr. Hamizer bin Mohd Sukor, Pensyarah Kanan, Institut Aminuddin Baki Genting Highlands paid a visit to the school and they were warmly greeted by the school Board of Governors and the PIBG.

Later that year on the 16th of May, this batch of old students were formally invited by the school to attend the Hari Guru celebrations. It was during this celebration the school requested the old students to form an Old Boys Association. Subsequently, a protem committee headed by the late Dr. Hamizer was formed to look into the registration of the association. Professor Dr Yang Farina binti Abdul Aziz was elected as his deputy in the protem committee. On the untimely demise of Dr. Hamizer, Professor Yang Farina took over as the president of the protem committee. On the 10th of October, 2010 the protem president, Professor Dr Yang Farina hosted a hari raya puasa makan at her home and all present pressed for the registration of MESA (Methodist English School Alumni). Subsequent to this, an application was submitted to Jabatan Pendaftaran Pertubuhan Malaysia. On the 9th of March 2011, and thanks to the efforts of the protem committee, Persatuan Alumni Sekolah Methodist Tanjong Malim, Selangor dan Kuala Lumpur, or “MESA” was officially registered.

It will contain photographs of old students from the time of the formation of the school. Photographs of teachers, school outings, and scenes of the good old days will also be included. The editorial board has also decided to include articles, sketches, caricatures and jokes into the magazine. To generate fund for the printing of the magazine, the editorial board would be pleased if old students of the school in the corporate sector can also take up advertisement space in the magazine.
